Brief History

　

1915 Rev.Mokusen Hiok i(Eiheiji 66th) stopped by on his return from San Francisco where World Buddhist conference had been held, and promised to the people to dispatch an excellent minister.
1916 Rev.Hakudo Ezawa established the Shinmachi temporary temple near Coconut Bay in Hilo.
1917 Present site in downtown was purchased and building commenced.
1918 Relocated to the new building, and named Hakuhozan Taishoji.
1942 War broke out with Japan and ministers and important officers were relocated , later sent to mainland camp with families.
1945 War ended.
1955 English name was decided as Taishoji Soto Mission.
1964 Taishoji By-laws were established.
